Pilgrimage to the Black Hills and Badlands of ND and SD

Here are the bullet points to our 7475 km journey to Sturgis, SD, and back home in the summer of 2011:

New pavement on the Crowsnest Highway between Hope and Manning Park, BC
Very nice scenic road between Princeton and Grand Forks, BC
Ice-cream break in historic Greenwood, BC, [the smallest city in Canada, is located on Highway #3 in the Kootenay Boundary region in southern BC. The hub of gold mining exploration in the Boundary, Greenwood was incorporated in 1897.]
Rode across Fernie, BC (Modern Alpine Resort town)
Saw the world’s biggest truck in Sparwood, BC
Crossed Crowsnest Pass, BC (no elevation sign, the lowest mountain pass in the Canadian Rockies)
Rode through Waterton Lakes National Park on a windy day [Where the Mountains Meet the Prairie: Rugged, windswept mountains rise abruptly out of gentle prairie grassland in spectacular Waterton Lakes National Park. Here, several different ecological regions meet and interact in a landscape shaped by wind, fire, flooding, and abundant plants and wildlife. The park helps protect the unique and unusually diverse physical, biological, and cultural resources found in the Crown of the Continent: one of the narrowest places in the Rocky Mountains from http://www.pc.gc.ca/pn-np/ab/waterton/index.aspx%5D.
Camped at Pitcher Creek, AB, survived a hailstorm
Rode the Fort Peck Dam spillway in Montana
Saw buffalo herds, feral [wild] horses, and prairie dogs up close in Theodore Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota
Took a guided tour of T. Roosevelt’s cabin in the Visitor Center.
Rode the scenic loop first clockwise and then the next day counterclockwise in Theodore Roosevelt National Park.
Beer and burger/pizza/salad at Boots Saloon & Grill in Medora, ND.
Scenic ride from Deadwood to Sturgis, SD via Silver City, Rapid City, and Nemo.
Visited Sturgis Motorcycle Museum, various street vendors, The Knuckle Saloon, and The Full Throttle Saloon.
Had beer in Saloon #10, which had many artifacts from the Wild Bill era, and a very good steak dinner at Frontier Steakhouse in Deadwood, SD.
